Tendon Injuries in the Knee

Tendon injuries in the knee can involve different tendons in the knee area and can result from acute injuries, chronic overuse, or repetitive motion.

Some of the most common tendon injuries in the knee include:

Patellar Tendonitis (Jumper’s Knee): Inflammation of the patellar tendon that connects the kneecap to the shinbone. It is common in athletes who jump frequently, such as basketball and volleyball players.

Goosefoot Tendonitis: Inflammation of the tendons that converge on the inner side of the knee, causing pain on the inside of the joint.

Hamstring Tendonitis: Inflammation of the hamstring tendon on the back of the thigh, which can cause pain behind the knee.

Achilles Tendinopathy: Injury to the Achilles tendon in the back of the leg, which can extend to the knee in some cases.

Treatment for tendon injuries in the knee may involve:

Rest: Resting the knee and avoiding activities that may worsen inflammation.

Physical Therapy: Stretching and strengthening exercises to help rehabilitate the tendon.

Anti-inflammatory Medications: These can help reduce inflammation and pain.

Injection: In some cases, corticosteroid or collagen injections may be given to reduce inflammation in the tendon.

Surgical treatment in severe cases.
