Hip osteoarthritis, also known as coxarthrosis, is a medical condition in which the cartilage lining the hip joint wears down over time. This cartilage degeneration causes pain, inflammation, and limited movement in the hip joint.
Coxarthrosis usually develops gradually, especially in older people or those who have suffered hip injuries.
The wear and tear of the cartilage causes the bones in the joint to rub directly against each other, causing severe pain and difficulty moving. Symptoms of coxarthrosis may include hip pain, stiffness, difficulty walking or climbing stairs, and a limited range of motion in the affected joint.
Treatment may range from lifestyle changes, physical therapy, medications, and, in more severe cases, hip replacement surgery.
The goal of treatment is to relieve pain, improve mobility, and allow the affected person to continue performing daily activities.
